Our Fall 2009 bonspiel concluded on November 13 (a FRIDAY!), with Team Hall winning the championship game over the Elliott rink. Team Hall was skipped by Tom Leach, with vice skip Rick Thomas, Jason Hall at second, and Jeff Switzer throwing lead. Hall’s 3-0 lead after three ends was maintained through the 4th, which went blank. In the final end, Team Elliott managed to put three stones into a well-guarded house. Tom Leach managed to take out one of Elliott’s stones, leaving Kevin Artis with a difficult attempt to put the hammer stone in for the tying point. Team Hall squeaked out the win, 3-2.
The Fall 2009 league will conclude with a fun (if not unique) night of curling on December 11. The Winter 2010 curling season will begin in February. Look for sign-up information soon.

What will they think of next?
“Deadspiel” has just won the Toronto Zombie Short Film Festival. That’s right: a Zombie curling movie has just won an award. You can visit their web site to see a very short (what it lacks in length, it makes up for in humor!) trailer for the film, and visit YouTube to see a little behind the scenes look at the movie. We’ll have to begin to see what we need to do to get this movie shown in Kalamazoo during the US Nationals.
[UPDATE] “Deadspiel” will be showing tonight (Tuesday, November 3, 2009) as part of the Mitten Movie Project in Royal Oak, Michigan. Tickets are $10, and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
The brackets and times have been posted for our Fall 2009 league tournament. We will have three draws, beginning at 6:45 on November 6. Subsequent draws will begin at 8:15 and 9:45. Teams are asked to please be sure to be ready to start at your games on time, so that other teams aren’t slowed down. We will be playing five-end matches. The tournament will conclude on November 13, again, starting at 6:45.
